Tips & Tricks for Traditional Spaces
by Haus of BlaylockIn today’s blog, I’ll be going over some of my favorite tips and tricks to help you create the perfect traditional space for your home! But before we jump into things, some of you may be asking…
What is Traditional Design?
Great question! Traditional Design is based on 18th and 19th-century European decor. Think comfy and cozy historical elegance all wrapped up in a classically refined design!
Consistency
The first rule you need to stick to when creating a traditional space is consistency. Traditional Design is full of symmetry, and balance. When you walk through the door you want to feel comforted with how every element harmoniously comes together to create a calm and cozy environment. There aren’t any unexpected elements.
Warm Color Palette
If you read my blog about color palettes, you’d know that nothing says comfy and cozy more than a color palette full of rich hues and multiple textures. These create a warmer and inviting environment and add a lot of dimension and contrast. But don’t take my word for it, take a look at one of the traditional spaces I designed below.
Textiles
Fabrics
Each room in a traditional home is different, but they all need to be consistent with one another. So, when picking out fabrics for a room, whether it be for the bedding or the drapery, make sure the look of the fabric has a specific purpose.
Wood
Wood is another essential element in traditional homes. Due to its cohesiveness with warm colors palettes, the use of wood is great for accents, moldings, cabinets, and ceilings!
Additional Modern Elements
Now, although the traditional design is based on 18th and 19th-century European decor, there’s still a somewhat modern twist to it! So, don’t be afraid of adding some of your own modern elements to design as long as it’s consistently seen throughout the rest of the home!
