Changing Paint Color

We’ve done plenty of homes in painted brick, and the outcome has always been beautiful! Painted brick has that sort of lovely classic traditional vibe to it. It’s also an effortless way to rescue a tired-looking home if you’re doing a remodel as well. I would say there are many pros. However, the biggest con is maintenance. You usually want to touch up and do maintenance about every three to five years. Talk to your painters and find out their best practices on priming, painting, and sealing it. You want to make sure they’ve done it before too. There are also going to be different qualities of brick too that will ultimately absorb the paint differently. So be sure to ask your painters if they think the brick you have will be able to absorb the color well and how long they believe it should last before you need another touch-up. These questions are essential to ask because you need to remember that paint often chips and because it’ll go on the exterior of your home, it should be susceptible to the weather. Luckily for us Texans, painted brick is perfect for our climate. Just make sure you have a clear idea of what you want the exterior of your home to look like, and then go from there. 

As I stated earlier, painted brick is a more traditional style, but it’s been trending again by younger generations painting their homes white in recent years, making it all the more classic. It’s important to note that, unlike other terracotta, white-painted brick is not manufactured. So whenever you drive by a white brick house, it’s guaranteed to be painted. So have fun and be creative in the different ways you go about choosing the materials and color of your home’s exterior. Just remember to see how the paint will react to sunlight; the UV light may change the color of the white over time. I’d recommend gathering the materials you plan to use for the exterior, including window molding and paint tests, to ensure all the colors match one another. 

Updating Hardware and Finishes

Great hardware is the perfect way to dress up your front door. We want your front door to look grand! When choosing the paint color of your front door, be sure to consider the style of your home overall. If you have a white brick house, really anything goes for the color of the front door. However, if you don’t, you want to pull from another color used. You’d be surprised at how the appearance of your home can change just from either painting the front door or even the shutters and casings. If you have a wooden door, keep it natural, that’s always the most beautiful. (Warning: natural finishes do require more maintenance.) Try to stick with three finishes MAX.

If you’re remodeling your home and looking to update the exterior, changing paint colors, you can also change window panes. Older homes tend to have smaller windows, especially compared to those we often see in modern homes. Updating the style and number of your window panes also makes a huge difference. On top of that, you can also change the roofing, the gutters, the lighting/lanterns. Newer homes tend to be more generous with all of these elements, so the bigger, the better! It gives it more of a heavy look, which is what you want in your home. You want your home to appear sturdy and grounded to the foundation. Speaking of which, rock and stone are the perfect material to use for your home’s foundation. The heaviest texture should be on the bottom of the house.
